OUR MISSION

What is the uni boob teaM?

The Exeter Uni Boob Team is the campus volunteer portion of the larger charity CoppaFeel! which spreads awareness of how to check for early stage cancer, particularly in young people.

As a society we not only offer free talks and collaborations with other societies to spread the message, but also run our own events and fundraising for the charity!

COPPAFEEL! MESSAGE

"CoppaFeel! exists to educate and remind every young person in the UK that checking their boobs isn’t only fun, it could save their life." Kris Hellenga, co-founder of CoppaFeel!

CoppaFeel! was founded to spread the message of checking for early stage cancer in young people after co-founder Kris was diagnosed with breast cancer at 23. The charity seeks to spread awareness around what symptoms to check for, how to check and where to go if you think you have discovered something.

As the Exeter Uni Boob Team, we strive to take this initiatve to campus and make sure EVERYONE in Exeter knows how to check their chests!

WHAT TO CHECK

Statistically if breast cancer is caught in stage 1 in the UK, there is a 99% chance of full recovery - below are the symptoms to look out for!

CHANGE

in skin texture, e.g. puckering, dimpling or unusual gathering of skin, this is most similar to orange peel in appearance. Change in direction of nipple is another symptom to be aware of.

SWELLING

of any area of the breast, including the skin up to the collarbone and around your armpit - not just the main area of breast/pec!

FEEL

for lumps and thickening of the breast tissue, its normal to have some lumps - but if you notice a change, get it checked out!

DISCHARGE

from nipples is another symptom to check for, particularly when present without squeezing.

SHAPE

changes are another key indicator of early stage breast cancer, so make sure you know your chest and check (at least!) once a month to know your normal.

INVERSION

of a nipple CAN be a symptom of breast cancer, however 10-20% of people have an inverted nipple normally, so if this is something you have always had - don't panic!

RASH

on the breast or nipple, often accompanied by crusting is something that should always be looked at by a doctor,

PAIN

although breast pain can be normal, particularly for menstruators around their period, you should get checked if it becomes constant throughout the month or much more painful than is normal for you.

Responsible for the organisation of the committee members and meetings, delegation within the committee, leadership and running of events.

Responsible for directly helping the President, general administrative tasks and commitment to the committee and events.

TREASURER

Isobel Moon

Responsible for the financial administration within the society as well as flexibility in helping with any committee element that needs extra support.

HEAD OF MARKETING, MEDIA AND EVENTS

Helena Hughes

Responsible for producing content for and running our social media platforms. Also responsible for planning, attending events and ensuring that they are well-organised, safe and fun!
